Marty Cochrane: Art and music have been a constant part of Martin’s life for over 40 years. Born in England, he immigrated to Canada in the mid 1950s, living in southern Ontario with his family. Martin moved to Calgary in the early 1970s and earned a living as a professional musician. In 1983 he enrolled at Mount Royal College and graduated with a diploma from the Television Arts program. Martin completed his practicum at 2&7 Television and never left the company. During his tenure as a floor director he rekindled his passion for the arts.
Later in his career Martin enrolled in part time art classes at Alberta College of Art and Design, beginning his study in drawing and painting. Further education at the University of Calgary introduced him to acrylic painting which is his current medium of choice. Retiring from Global TV in 2014, Martin continues to work in the television industry specializing in freelance sports production. Retirement has given him the time to further explore his artistic interests and painting has become a mainstay in his life. Since 2012 Martin has explored landscapes with rustic settings, urban street scenes and all elements of transportation featuring a distinctive palette and empathy for a bygone era. Martin has resided in Cochrane, Alberta since 2008 and is currently a member of two art clubs in town. In addition to painting, he is also an accomplished recording artist in the music industry.
